Dog Days Of Summer #7

SUNDAY
Why is it that I can't seem to sit still and just relax at the moment??? Today I decided to tackle the kitchen head on. In the last two years I bought a few kitchen gadgets that ended up stuffed in a cupboard due to lack of space in my kitchen. Naturally, I haven't used them as I have stuff packed in front and on top of them! I've rescued them and have some out ready to use like the mixer, food processor, kitchen scales, dehydrator, toaster and one of those hand held things were you can slice, dice and mince vegetables easier. The other gadgets are sitting with easy access on a shelf in the cupboard-blender, ice cream maker and deep fat fryer! All of that cupboard has been tidied and excess frying pans, woks and pots have all been put in there instead of living on top of the cooker like barnicles! I'm pleased by how much space I've found just by moving stuff around.

My dad has offcuts of wood stored in the hall so he's going to build a small shelf unit at some point that I can keep all my baking and bread making products in. That will give me more space to get stuff out of boxes on the floor. It's surprising how excited I am about tidying a kitchen! OK I admit it, I have no life!

MONDAY
Just had the delivery from Asda at 9am this morning. The poor guy had to deliver in the rain and he looked pretty miserable! It's so much better having these stress free deliveries to the door instead of supermarket queues, tons of carrying and irate shoppers to deal with! I'm waiting for the arrival of my baking set which has cake and loaf tins, baking trays and trays for cupcakes and muffins. Then I should be pretty much set to get started on a batch of simple cakes! I also have plans to start making my own versions of Harry Potter things like Butterbeer and cauldron cakes once I get into the swing of things! FUN!!!

I received a late night delivery from Amazon of John Bolton's book. I now have one full shelf of US political books, all waiting to be read and I've also got books about Hillary Clinton and Obama to read too. My UK political shelves are fuller with four full shelves, a lot of them unread. I do enjoy political memoirs and diaries and books about campaigns and elections for UK and US. I will also be reading books by some Trump supporters as well just to ensure that I get all sides of things. Politics in general fascinate me and so do the differing opinions and stuff.

TUESDAY
Finally I got a great night's sleep, my first in about a week and I feel a bit more human. I'm annoyed that feeling crappy wiped out half of my week for reading but I did still deal with four books which is better than nothing! I'm about four days behind in my blogging and feel as if I'm wading through treacle trying to catch up with everything when all I really want to do is sit in my bed and read and watch re-runs of Pimp My Ride! Ooh I love that show! I like seeing the colour of the paintwork, the shiny chrome wheels and trimmings and the mad stuff they put inside! I'll be watching some of that tonight.

I'vealso been stuffing myself as my appetite has come back. We each had a plate of smoked fish tonight including trout, mackeral and salmon, and followed it up with chocolate ice cream with clotted cream...YUM!

WEDNESDAY
Waiting for Amazon parcels and finally they arrive! My bakery set with cake tins and trays, the Mary Trump book, dehydration sachets, vicks nasal inhalers for winter and a second set of those cleaning liquids I tried recently to put by for the winter. I've ordered a few cheap dvds for my dad to cheer him up as he's been a bit down recently, and that should come by the weekend.

We took a quick run down to Aldi in the car and were delighted to see only four people inside doing their shopping, all wearing masks and gloves. I made a beeline for the cleaning products and got a selection of Power Force cleaning products, furniture polish, Lacura face wipes and deoderant, bleach, cooking oil, air fresheners and a few other essentials I can only get here. I was in and out in 20 minutes but was nearly having a panic attack in the car all the way home. I guess I'm not ready for 'normal' activities yet...

Wherever you are, whatever you do, look after yourselves and each other and stay safe.

    1. I seem to be becoming obsessed with getting things clean and tidy! I think losing a bit of weight has given me back energy and I have to use it up!

  2. Such a good week for you. My appetite is still off but I am getting into some reading again. I went out to tackle the briars growing in my flowerbeds and was making good progress until my feet felt like they were burning. Looked down and had fire ants chewing both feet from toes to ankles. Yikes, that hurt! Guess I'm done for the day.

    1. I always struggle with appetite on warmer days here and just want to drink instead! Eww, fire ants, how nasty! This is why Chuckles does not have even a single green finger-I'm too scared of all the bugs!!!

  3. So we went to a new Aldi's last week here and it was a great store and like you said, not a lot of people. Mr. Barb loves kitchen gadgets but storage is a main issue in a kitchen of a house that's 119 years old! Glad you are feeling better and a good night's sleep can really change things.

    1. I feel as if I've got most of my winter needs right now. I got in a few more household items since I wrote this so I'm in good shape. Gadgets are fun but I agree about the storage being difficult. Our kitchen is tiny-about five metres by six metres with odd cupboards sticking out and too many doors!

  4. You have a lot of political books, I had heard of Mary Trump until the other day, I think it’ll be fascinating to read her book.

I was in Tesco on Sunday, everyone had masks on and they had removed the arrows from the floor so everyone was moving through the store in a much better way.

    1. I'm so very nervous about going back into a supermarket but my dad went to our local Aldi about a week or so ago and it was pretty empty so I guess panic buying finally stopped! I might have to brave one more visit to Aldi in the next few weeks for stuff I can't get delivered by Asda!

  5. sounds like a great week. i am avoiding politics and news. my anger and frustration of the happenings here in florida make me crazy, so i get lost in my fiction.

    1. I can understand your anger. I'm just baffled by the Florida and Georgia governors attitudes to the virus. Ignoring it won't make the virus go away! I've stopped watching the news other than the odd thing on CNN for world news. It just gets my blood pressure up!

  6. I use Walmart for most non perishable grocery deliveries and have them deliver stuff once a month. I had to add a few boxes of ensure and carnation breakfast drink since Ken is having a hard time eating solid food. I haven't been doing much baking because it's just too hot to turn the oven on. It was 114 F here this weekend.

    1. I could not survive in temperatures that high! I get grumpy when it hits 70 here! I'm trying to get my cupboard stocks to capacity for the winter ie tins, cleaning products, medicine and dried goods, all the stuff that can be stored long term so I don't need to order them again until next year! Winter deliveries will be bread, milk, fizzy drinks and perishable restocks as we need them!

    1. I'm way too scared of giving the virus to my dad so I'm not going out at all! Thank you Asda delivery for helping me get round that issue! I'll be sticking to home delivery after the crisis as it's better for my nerves!

  8. Looks like you had an exciting week! I love reorganizing. I did my kitchen yesterday.

We moved to the new house in November but as time goes on I rearrange to make things more efficient.

    1. I wouldn't generally say I loved it but during this pandemic I'm finding it oddly satisfying! My dad and I so much want to move to England but we can't afford it unless we win the lottery!

  9. Tidying up kitchens are always fun though I don't really have a life either. Love getting packages! We aren't able to do much shopping these days so mail time is always exciting. Take care of yourself and have a great week!

    1. I'm finding more fun in it than I thought I would! It's very satisfying each time I do something to make things look better. Not much to do in the kitchen so with a sense of dread, I'm in the planning stage of sorting my bedroom and my dad's!
