Welcome to my Game of Thrones Gossip,
where us fanatics get the chance to discuss everything we love
about this amazing TV series. I
decided to do a whole series of these discussion posts that let us say
everything we want and enjoy every second of it! Please feel free to comment fully and without restriction!
I have to warn you that it is important that you have seen all six seasons before reading any of these posts because these posts and blogger comments will be exploding spoilers all over the place. If you haven't watched the series and plan to, be warned that it's a bad idea to be here right now! I take no responsibility if you read on and things are spoiled for you.
Now I'm looking at the main characters introduced in season three, what our season two characters were doing and looking at all the bests bits. Enjoy the season three posts!
Having survived the Battle of the Blackwater with a badly scarred face, Tyrion has lost his position as acting Hand of the King with the return of Tywin, his luxury chambers and his loyal hill tribe bodyguards who have returned home. He asks his father for Casterly Rock, knowing that Jaime cannot inherit land or titles as a member of the Kingsguard and is stunned by Tywin's furious response to giving it to his younger son.
"You who killed your mother to come into the world? You are an ill-made, spiteful little creature, full of envy, lust and low cunning. Men's laws give you the right to bear my name and display my colours since I cannot prove that you are not mine. And to teach me humility, the gods have condemned me to watch you waddle about wearing that proud lion that was my father's sigil and his father's before him. But neither gods nor men will ever compel me to let you turn Casterly Rock into your whorehouse."-Tywin Lannister
Tyrion now knows where he stands and that Tywin will never regard him as his son or give him Casterly Rock. He is also aware of the danger Shae is in as Tywin has promised to execute the next whore that is found in Tyrion's bed. Living in King's Landing with Cersei and Tywin's spies around him means that danger is everywhere and he fears for her safety. Tyrion and Varys become aware through Ros and Shae that Littlefinger is planning to smuggle Sansa out of King's Landing and decide that they have to save her. Tyrion tries to stop Littlefinger being allowed to leave by pointing out that they need a Master of Coin so close to Joffrey's wedding, so Tywin appoints his son to the post instead. Varys then concocts a plot with Olenna Tyrell to marry Sansa to Loras but this is ruined and instead, Tyrion is told that he will marry Sansa and Cersei will marry Loras. Cersei and Tyrion are equally furious about it.
Tyrion is distraught at having to marry Sansa, knowing the shame it will bring to her and the fury it will bring to Shae, but on the plus side, he can now protect his new wife from Joffrey and Littlefinger. Joffrey ensures humiliation for his uncle at the ceremony by removing the steps that Tyrion planned to use to cloak the bride. He comforts himself by getting drunk and threatening Joffrey when he mentions a bedding ceremony. Alone in their chamber, Tyrion tells Sansa that he won't bed her until she wants him to but is hurt when Sansa asks what happens if she never wants him. When news comes of The Red Wedding, Tyrion knows that any chance of Sansa softening to him is gone, as his family have now murdered her parents and brother. With Bran and Rickon believed dead at the hands of Theon and Arya missing and presumed dead, there is no comfort that Tyrion can give her. Dealing with Shae's insane jealousy over the wedding proves to be just as difficult for him, with her furious mood swings and determination to break the rules he tries to impose on her.
Tyrion does learn who his actual friends are, with Bronn and Pod never far from his side. It is in this season that he becomes closer to Varys and sees the dark side to his nature when Varys reveals what happened to the man who made him a eunoch. It is his family that cause him the struggles. Tywin forces his to marry and demands that he reproduces for the good of the family that he continually announces that Tyrion is not really part of. Cersei agrees that he should give Sansa children as only then can his wife be happy, something she knows only too well from marrying Robert. Tyrion's relationship with Joffrey descends into open contempt and public threats as Tyrion loses all patience for his evil nephew.
An unhappy wife and angry mistress are soon going to be the least of Tyrion's problems.

My favorite character! I know I say “My favorite character” a lot, but Tyrion is my favorite-favorite. I kind of hope he becomes king.

Yes Tyrion is the one who would make a great and fair leader. I just want something good to happen to him in the end!
DeleteI love Tyrion in so many ways. I actually think he and Sansa would have made a great power couple. I think Tyrion is misunderstood in a lot of ways. I hope his sister gets taken down eventually and he finds some comfort in it all. Reading this post has made me long for new episodes. Why do my favorite shows take FOREVER to film!
ReplyDeleteI could think of a lot worse husbands Sansa could have had! He got no thanks for all the times he saved her. I just want to see a happy ending for him!
DeleteYeah, lots worse things to come for Tyrion. I adore his character. Him and Bronn together are a hoot. And I think Sansa could learn a thing or two from Tyrion. Man, I miss this show and love your discussions about it. Makes me want to binge it again. LOL
ReplyDeleteSansa just drives me nuts! She was so rude at the wedding, letting Tyrion struggle to cloak her and have them all laughing. She should've plastered on a big smile and looked pleased just to shut them all up!
DeleteOne of these days I'm going to have to watch it. :-) So many people rave about it and I don't know what they are talking about.

It sounds like the kind of series men would love but all my female blogger friends seem to be mad for it too! I love it, I can't get enough of it!
