An Unexpected Journey pt 2

Day 2 of the holiday was shopping day! We got the brilliant tram down to the Tower, where Paddy got another selfie done. It was so hot, up around 25 degrees and I was melting as we sat and enjoyed the scenery for a bit before heading to HMV and Waterstones. HMV had a great DVD sale so of course we over-indulged and bought a pile. My dad grabbed some horror and martial arts while I grabbed a mixed bunch which I'll show at the end of this post. Here are a few more Tower pics.

I just love Blackpool Tower! You can go to the top and get a great view of the whole coast or visit the attractions inside. We've been in dozens of times so I didn't bother this time. Maybe next year. We had a nose round a few other shops before getting a few photos on the sea front, looking towards Central Pier with the big wheel, and then North Pier.

We got the tram back up to Waterloo Road where the good markets start so my dad can add to his T-Shirt collection. The stuff you get here is great quality but cheaper to buy here. And I finally found some T-Shirts in my bigger size for the first time in years! Shopping was fun today! Then it was a tram back down two stops with all the bags to have a rest.

Ok, time to discuss the shopping! These are the DVDs I bought at 5 for £20 plus a few extras.... Bargains!

A nice days work eh? Photos of the great T-Shirts on next post!

An Unexpected Journey pt 1

As I mentioned in my STS post, as we entered June I was feeling dog tired, mentally drained, lacking concentration even for reading and suffering from the heatwave we were experiencing. I badly needed to recharge my batteries and have a blogging break. The plan was for long lies and lots of rest and reading. Well, instead on Saturday 4th my dad phoned the hotel in Blackpool that we usually use to see if he could take us from Sunday. He could, so I was in a mad packing frenzy that night ready for a 4-5 hour drive the next day. We arrived in Blackpool Sunday lunchtime to find that they were in the middle of a mega heatwave!

So on Sunday afternoon we set out on our first walk at the South Promenade. Thankfully, the sea breeze kept us cooler but it was pretty hot, up in the 20's. Suddenly, I was glad I packed quite a few T-Shirts! Check out that beautiful sky! My monkey Paddy, wanted to do a selfie at the rollercoaster...(below) and he loved the dinosaur on the shop roof below the rollercoaster tracks!

We took a walk out onto South Pier to relax and get a few photos. I'm trying out the camera I got cheap in the Black Friday sales last year-a Panasonic Lumix, and I love the zoom lens on it. The photos are really clear too. You can see the difference below with and without the zoom as I took photos of the Blackpool Tower from South Pier.

We just had to indulge in a creamy cup of Mr Whippy ice cream with a flake...but we nearly fainted at paying £4.50 EACH for it! That is a serious rip off for two scoops and a stick of flaky chocolate!!! It was such a gorgeous day though and the excuse to scoff it was 'we're on holiday'. I used that excuse a few times...We weren't the only people enjoying the day!

A great first day on our holiday but boy did I enjoy a nice hot shower when I got back to the hotel...

What's On Chuckle TV

I have an obsession with Masterchef despite not being able to do more than basic recipes-I just love the overall drama of the series! I enjoy watching the kitchen disasters, pressure tests, invention tests, gorgeous dishes, the team challenges etc. I also enjoy how the different countries do their own versions.

Season 2 of Masterchef New Zealand saw some changes to the format with Josh Emett replacing Ross Burden. I loved the introduction of Josh, who is a top chef hand picked by Gordon Ramsey to run a restaurant-so you know how good he is. His personality fits perfectly with Simon and Ray so I think this is a great set of judges!

I do wonder about the common sense of the contestants-were they even watching last season? When the judges tell you there is a limit on the number of ingrediants you can use on a challenge, COUNT THEM! Nadia lands herself in a pile of trouble by not paying attention and getting TEN extra than what she was allowed! Last season early on, a contestant did the same and got into a real disaster so obviously nobody learned from that. Anyway, I did enjoy the series despite not really having a favourite contestant to follow.

Season 3 introduced a few characters that I didn't greatly like. Watching a contestant in the bread challenge slagging off a team mate on camera within the poor guy's earshot was rude and I amused to see this rude guy making a mess of his own bread! Karma! In the second challenge Josh was calling for a stomach pump for one of the dishes which amused me! There was also fighting in the later stages of the competition when one contestant told the judges that two others broke the rules-now that made good TV! I didn't greatly like Ana as her attitude at times was sneering and superior. Another good series!

Season 4 was my favourite series so far. One contestant wanted to sacrifice his whole team to elimination if they were the worst team which didn't amuse one of his team who gave up her job to come to Masterchef. A couple of the guys were pretty arrogant so I didn't like them much but the shocking language from Paula throughout was really offputting. I've never heard so many bleeps! In one episode, pretty much everything she said during cooking was bleeped out which was not greatly enjoyable to watch. There was one contestant who was way above everyone else and deserved to win the title. Yea!

Stacking the Shelves #136

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! Click on the link under the book to find its page on Goodreads or Smashwords.

Please note that I always leave a message on your STS/SP if you visit me, but if you use DISQUS or a similar third party I will not be able to leave a comment on your page. I don't allow any company access to my social media accounts and I certainly don't allow them to edit and take over my accounts the way DISQUS does. So if you use DISQUS, I can't leave comments on your page so I can't really follow you back, sorry! I'm noticing that some blogs set with Google Plus are trying to force you to open a Google Plus account before you can leave a comment. Well, I have no interest in rejoining Google Plus so if your blog uses this set up, I won't be following it or commenting! And sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me so there might not be a message from me some weeks or you might get a double message sometimes! Blame them, not me!

It's nice to be back! I was totally burned out and suffering in the hot weather spell we were having-I don't do well in heat-so I decided to take a break towards the end of last week, hoping to feel refreshed, rest and read! Well it didn't quite work out how I expected as my dad phoned the hotel in Blackpool that we usually visit when we go there on Saturday night, to see if he could fit us in for a short break. I love going to Blackpool but I didn't enjoy the mad scramble on Saturday night to get ready to leave on Sunday morning! And guess what-Blackpool had a bigger heatwave than we had here and I was ROASTED in the sun!!! The average temperature was 25 degrees! All the details will be on my holiday post-An Unexpected Journey. So much for a quiet rest! It was a hectic holiday full of walking, sweat, and sun but it was a good holiday overall. We got back yesterday afternoon so now I have piles of washing and ironing to do...groan!

So I didn't get a single book read the entire holiday as I was just too tired! I had to just read those true story magazines instead, which I like. It reminds me that other people are having worse times than me. I plan to do a post about these reading habits this week sometime. I do hope to get some reading done while my dad yells at the football over the next couple of weeks! On holiday I just had to buy a few books (of course!) and a few I'd ordered a couple of weeks ago arrived while I was away. I'm not sure I'll like the charity shop book but I just loved the cover so it was an impulse buy! A smaller STS this week at last!

Blog Break

The above picture pretty much sums up how I feel right now. We are in the middle of a very hot spell here in Scotland and I don't do well in heat so I feel totally drained, miserable, hot and tired. I have no energy at all every day and I can't concentrate on anything. I haven't read a book all week and haven't wanted to do anything except flop in front of the TV. I've barely got anything done on the blog either and it's frustrating.

My dad has decided that I need to have a total rest-longer lies in bed, less computer time, and a chance to just chill out a bit in the garden with some fresh air instead of hiding indoors. Hopefully the hot spell will finish soon and I'll get my overall mojo back and feel a bit more energetic! I'm not doing STS this week but hope to do one next week. All comments left on the blog will be answered hopefully by next weekend and I aim to be back online by then with any luck. If the darn weather cooperates...

I HATE SUMMER!!! Bring on the cold bloody days!

Back soon, luv Chuckles.
