Nonfiction November-Your Year in Non-Fiction

I've seen a couple of my blogging friends taking part this year and as I always enjoy a bit of non-fiction, I decided it was time to give it a try!

As well as trying to read some non-fiction this month, our hosts will be leading a discussion post each week so we can talk about the books too.The first discussion is about the year we have had in non-fiction.

I read a decent amount of non fiction each year. I enjoy various kinds like political memoirs and diaries, mountain expeditions, sharks, dinosaurs, Tudor and Plantagenet, biographies of people who interest me, cryptids, disasters, prepper non fiction, and anything on my favourite TV shows ie American Ninja Warrior, Buffy, Game of Thrones, The West Wing etc.

Take a look back at your year of nonfiction and reflect on the following questions – What was your favorite nonfiction read of the year?  Do you have a particular topic you’ve been attracted to more this year?  What nonfiction book have you recommended the most? What is one topic or type of nonfiction you haven’t read enough of yet?  What are you hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November?

1-Favourite NF reads of this year?

2-Particular Topic more attracted to this year?
I've wanted to read more political books this year as I love the subject. I read a few Royal NF's for a challenge which was fun!

3-What NF book have you recommended the most?
I'm not really a recommender of books to be honest. I tend to try and write reviews that will have people deciding for themselves if they want to read the book or not. I don't try to influence what others read.

4-A topic of NF you haven't read enough of?
I can't really say there is one. I tend to read what interests me and that is the topics I already mentioned. If I had unlimited time I'd read more of each topic I like but generally I'm happy with the subjects I read about now.

5-What do you hope to get out of this challenge?
A couple of blogging friends are doing the challenge so I figured it would be fun to join in with them. I'm hoping that being in the challenge keeps me motivated to get some NF done this month towards my goal of reducing the TBR.

Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Man it has been COLD this week! Not Siberia style temperatures but the kind where you want to snuggle under the duvet with a good book! Last night I was doing just that and got a couple of short stories read, a couple of late additions to Spooky Booky month! This month I start three November challenges, reading a full series (UF), some non fiction and some SF. Hopefully I can avoid any more slumps, catch up on my Goodreads total again and continue to reduce the TBR pile before we hit December. I'm feeling quite positive about this month!

I'm getting close to my Winter Hibernation so in a few weeks I'll be stopping my Amazon purchases for a few months. This week I've had a few things arriving like a pre ordered behind the scenes of Game of Thrones book, a couple of new bathroom cabinets to make life easier for me, and a trilogy of paperbacks that I recently read and enjoyed in ebook. I had to have a winter treat and since they were marked as read on Goodreads, I'm not adding anything to the TBR just altering the edition! I also seem to be finding books on ereaders and physical shelves that I forgot to add to Goodreads ie the three books below so that is another task for winter while I'm not buying from Amazon...

It is such a joy to be up to date with book reviews again this week! I have a post ready for tomorrow with the latest three reviews and I've just finished two short stories which I'll be adding to another post today. Nice! I'm working this week on political statistics so I'm ready for the General Election coverage in December, and continuing with my list of notes on each book I have on my ereaders. I hope to complete that by next week.

Film & TV
My dad and I are on to American Ninja Warrior season 7. My dad was so excited watching season 6 so this new season we're watching will blow his mind! I've been watching the Jurassic Park films countless times this week as background while I read!

I finished a couple of short stories on Halloween which helps with my Goodreads Challenge which I'm behind on again. Stupid thing. As I'm starting three book challenges this month, the plan this week is to get one book done for each challenge to get things started.

SCI-FI MONTH

Hosted by https://onemore.org/ and  https://deargeekplace.com/.
Between the 1st and 30th of November, how many SF books can you read?

Last year I took part in SCIFI month for the first time but hit a reading slump at the same time, which was frustrating! This year I'm planning to try again and hopefully I can get at least a few books read! I'll be happy to get five books read and any more would be a bonus! I'm mood reading so my choices could change but at the moment I'm targeting these books.

1) Pierce Brown-Red Rising
2) RR Haywood-Extracted
3) Kenneth C Johnson-V
4) Mark Lawrence-One Word Kill
5) Nicholas Sansbury Smith-Hell Divers

Nonfiction November

I've seen a couple of my blogging friends taking part this year and as I always enjoy a bit of non-fiction, I decided it was time to give it a try!

As well as trying to read some non-fiction this month, our hosts will be leading a discussion post each week so we can talk about the books too.

I'm just in a non-fiction mood at the moment so I'm targeting these five books to read this month, and I might even fit more in!

1) Jeffrey Archer-Heaven (Prison Diaries #3)
2) Ant Middleton-First Man In
3) Jeremy Thompson-Breaking News
4) Alex MacCormick-The Mammoth Book of Shark Attacks
5) Myles McNutt-Game of Thrones: A Guide to Westeros & Beyond

Who else is taking part this year? Come and join in even if you just get one nonfiction book off your shelf! I'm not sure if I'll take part in all the discussions as that depends on time available each week but I will try.
