Winter Blues #4

Hi everyone, Dave here!
Another busy week here at The Book Cave. We've managed to get a few posts out this week despite Blogger doing its best to drive my poor Mum to a breakdown with formatting issues. She had to put a book tag on the backburner as the graphics were in a complete mess. We'll go back to it and try again maybe after the weekend.

We've been doing a bit of reading with a couple of cartoon books that arrived this week. Mum gets these political cartoon books every year to use for her news scrapbooks. We read them and got a couple of other booky treats including new books in ongoing series that she likes and a new Game of Thrones behind the scenes book which looks quite good. We've set a reading goal of 100 at the moment to avoid putting pressure on ourselves and hopefully we can raise that total as the year goes on. We'll see what happens. She also read a book about sex scandals in the White House but it was poor. Every piece of gossip ever printed in the National Enquirer was in it, and every President was well and truly bashed and sneered at. Obviously the author is no fan of US politics and it's not a great read overall.

Mum decided that with the weather being so cold here at the moment, she was going to invest in a couple of pairs of retro leg warmers that were so popular with keep fit nutters in the 80's! One pair is neon green and the other neon pink! They are actually pretty good at keeping the legs warm through these winter days. They are pretty good to wear under PJs and trousers which is useful as Mum has had to go out brushing snow off our path, salting the path and stairs, filling squirrel and bird feeders and prising open frozen bins for the last three days. Snow isn't common in central Scotland but there has been a reasonable amount this week.

Mum also entered a magazine competition before Christmas and was surprised to get a win! She won a framed and signed photo of Chris Gascoyne who plays her favourite character Peter Barlow in the ITV serial drama Coronation Street! Lovely! She's really chuffed with it and that will be hanging up on the wall tonight for sure! I'm SURE she fancies the actor in question which will make her even happier...oops she's giving me the hairy eyeball for that remark!

We got good news on the fence as well. Scott the garden guy has checked with local council officials and been given the green light to work through this latest Scottish lockdown and he has got the wood he needs to do the job. He is hoping to get started on Monday as long as it is safe to travel what with the snow and we are delighted that things are going to start getting done! Scott did great work on the other fences so we look forward to having our garden back to normal again.

That's all our news for now. Have a good weekend!
Dave

  2. Peter Barlow, he’s quite the character! Poor guy, he never gets a break.

It freezing with us, I’ve been sitting doing my work with many many many layers on me and some times a dog too!

    Stay safe!

    1. I love the character and Dave's right about fancying the actor! He's second on my list behind Sam Robertson (Adam Barlow)! The legwarmers are in use every day and have been a great help!

    1. It's Wednesday and no action on the fence this week so far but the weather has been rain and snow which isn't great for setting concrete!

  4. I'm not a fan of snow or cold weather either but the leg warmers sound fabulous. What fun to win the autographed picture of your favorite character! That's a great win!

    1. The win certainly cheered me up! I now have to find a place in my cluttered room to display it! I might need to buy a few more pairs of the legwarmers while they are in stock!

  5. I received a pair of legwarmers recently. I have been wearing them on my arms under my coat when I walk the dogs and they do keep my arms warm. Congrats on the win of the signed photo! I am also glad that things are moving along with your fence!

    1. Good call to use them on your arms in dog walking expeditions. Fingers crossed for the fence getting done quickly as it's been driving me a bit mad!

    1. It makes a change to win something! To be honest as prizes go, I'd rather win Sam Robertson who plays Adam Barlow!!!
