I always like a nice book tag at this time of year! I saw this over at the blog of Sir Bookstooge https://bookstooge.wordpress.com/ and decided to have a go. If you want to join in, just answer the questions. If you aren't on LT, just alter the appropriate questions to Goodreads or similar as I have done. I've gone rogue on a few tricky questions...
1) Name any book you read at any time that was published in the year you turned 18
I
read this many years after it was published and I loved it. At the
time, I was reading a lot of Asian non fiction based in war zones and
communist countries. This book had me gripped.
2) Name a book you have on your TBR pile that is over 500 pages long
I have lots of political books over 500 pages that I need to read including this one.
3) What is the last book you read with a mostly blue cover?
It was the 60th year of serial drama Coronation Street in 2020 and this book was released for that anniversary.
4) What is the last book you didn’t finish (and why didn’t you finish it?
This was certainly one of my more recent DNFs last year. Dreadful characters, poor plot and writing...hated it.
5) Name the book that you read either this year or last year that
takes place geographically closest to where you live? How close would
you estimate it was?
This disaster took place in Bradford, England and that is about 210 miles away from where I am.
6) What were the topics of the last two nonfiction books you read?
The
last book I read in 2020 was about DJ and TV presenter Jimmy Savile,
who was a sex pest and paedophile. The first actual book I read in 2021
was about scandal in the White House though it was all rumour and
gossip, not fact.
7) Name a recent book you read which could be considered a popular book?
I don't generally read popular books but I know a lot of people who have read or want to read this book.
8) What was the last book you gave a rating of 5-stars to? And when did you read it?
I read this for the first time in November 2020.
9) Name a book you read that led you to specifically to read
another book (and what was the other book, and what was the connection)
No idea!
10) Name the author you have most recently become infatuated with.
I
read a Paddington book on a whim last year to cheer me up and it led to
me grabbing every book for every age range I could get hold of!
Paddington get me going during lockdown and I loved the books.
11) What is the setting of the first novel you read this year?
The first novel I read in 2020 was a zombie book set in New York.
12) What is the last book you read, fiction or nonfiction, that featured a war in some way (and what war was it)?
The
former special forces men talk about their military experience and how
those lessons can be applied to everyday working life. Various war zones
were mentioned.
13) What was the last book you acquired or borrowed based on an LTer’s review or casual recommendation?
I
don't tend to get recommendations from anyone as my tastes are so picky
but this book appeared on so many blogs that I followed that I was
curious to read it. Now I'm a fan of the author.
14) What the last book you read that involved the future in some way?
I think this was the last one I read that dealt with the future. Didn't much like it though!
15) Name the last book you read that featured a body of water, river, marsh, or significant rainfall?
I'm
going with the last novel that had a significant water issue rather
than a Paddington picture book so that is this Enid Blyton book which
features an underground river, secret forest and a flooding drama.
16) What is last book you read by an author from the Southern Hemisphere?
I
have no idea. Most authors I read are US or British. I've instead
picked a book by an Aussie author I liked and hope to read the full
series this year..
17) What is the last book you read that you thought had a terrible cover?
Jeez
there have been many over the years but I can't remember the last I
really despised. I did find this one scary so I'll pick it as being different!
18) Who was the most recent dead author you read? And what year did they die?
I don't honestly pay much attention to author deaths. Again I'm just picking an author who died before their time in 2001.
19) What was the last children’s book (not YA) you read?
It was a re-read of this one which I have literally just finished.
20) What was the name of the detective or crime-solver in the most recent crime novel you read?
I don't read crime novels as I'm not keen on them but this book has amateur kid detectives solving a crime.
21) What was the shortest book of any kind you’ve read so far this year?
I've read a couple of short political cartoon books this year.
22) Name the last book that you struggled with (and what do you think was behind the struggle?)
This
one was supposed to be about facts not gossip and rumour, slagging off
every US President and making every one look like utter deviants.
23) What is the most recent book you added to your library here on LT?
I'm not on LT. The last I added to Goodreads was this one.
24) Name a book you read this year that had a visual component (i.e. illustrations, photos, art, comics)
I read quite a few of these last year!
25) What
is the title and year of the oldest book in your physical library that
you have reviewed on LT? (Mrs Bookstooge reckons there are three ways to
look at this question)
- 1) The Oldest Book by when it was written
- 2) The Oldest Book by when I bought it
- 3) The Oldest Book edition that I own
It's too hard to work this one out as Goodreads doesn't have publishing dates for all my books. I'm just going to pick one of my older books instead as it's too much hassle to check tons of books on my physical shelves.

I like your answers. The only two books I can remember reading that were over 500 pages were Acheron and Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
ReplyDeleteI have so many huge volumes that I've read ie Game of Thrones. Still got a ton of 500 page political monsters to tackle!
DeleteAll I can say is thank goodness for tag posts. They've really saved me from having to come up with something creative on my own :-)
ReplyDeleteI love doing this kind of tag too. It's fun to do something like this though it was a bit of a monster!
DeleteHmmm....I wonder if I even read a book the year that I turned 18. I was too busy being an idiot. Fun post!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was reading the way I did when I was younger! It would be a relief for my TBR!
DeleteThis was fun. I imagine I'd have some trouble recalling books for some of these questions.
ReplyDeleteGoodreads helped with some questions but others I drew a total blank!
