Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!
****************
Not a great deal report this week. I've spent most of the week with my head in a painting by numbers project and moaning about the heat! I haven't been online much as I've had trouble concentrating on anything other than the painting! But it is finished now and I plan to be busy on the blog over the next week with book tags and book reviews!

I've had another good reading week which is a relief-details in my Currently Reading section later. No book buying so I found three books lurking on my ereader that aren't on my TBR yet so I'll share them with you!

Chuckles Blogging World
It's been strange-blogging has felt like a chore since I came back from holiday and I'm questioning the way forward again! I'm looking to drop down to a post a day at most so there will be a revamp of content. Hopefully that will make things feel a bit less hectic every week!

I'm keeping half an eye on the Tory Leadership contest and watching the Cricket World Cup most days. I haven't been doing anything at night except reading!

I read two of the books I selected last week-Election Notebook, which took three days to read, and The Found World, which was disappointing! I did also read Valkyrie and Green Eyed Demon. I plan to get on with White Pointer next and then these three.

Chuckles Chuntering

Ugh it is just so HOT this week! I'm not really a summer kind of girl at the best of times! I'd hoped warmer weather would mean more time to paint but my dad wants to sand the two fences first and it's too warm even to do that! No outdoor work this week!

On the bright side I've been staying cool and unfrazzled indoors! I haven't really been online much this week because I treated myself to a Game of Thrones painting by numbers kit, which I was putting by for autumn or winter fun. However the instructions said to use up the paint within a month so I sort of had to get on with it straight away! It has been surprisingly stressful as I needed a magnifying glass to see the bloody numbers but overall I'm pleased with the way it looks. It's that classic scene where Tormund turns his charm and goofy grin on the unimpressed Brienne! I love that scene! Note the mess I've made around the borders!

I might get a few more of these kits for the winter as a few fun projects but the problem now is, what to do with this one! I have a lack of wall space at the moment!

Tonight the plan is just to drink lots of cold lime fizzy juice, a box of Tunnock's teacakes and Mr Kipling cakes-those Viennese Whirls, reading a nice political book or some sharks, and hopefully getting a breeze in my bedroom window!

Winter is coming! (I hope...)

Books From The Backlog-Mayflowers for November

Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf.  You might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks. Go to Carole's blog and add your blog post link in to join in the fun! Hosted by Carole at https://carolesrandomlife.blogspot.co.uk/

This seems like a fun feature and I have been planning to take part since Carole launched this so at last, here we go! I have a TON of unread books to choose from in various genres and I'm looking forward to sharing some of them with everybody.

A novel depicting Anne Boleyn's dramatic downfall through the eyes of a servant in the court of Henry the Eighth.

Avis Grinnel’s life is forever changed when a young musician arrives unexpectedly to escort her to the innermost sanctum of King Henry VIII’s royal court. However, it is not the king who has demanded her presence but his new queen, the much-disliked Anne Boleyn. She has been told Avis is a “little cunning wench who has the sight” and demands she uses her powers to divine whether the queen is pregnant with a girl, or with the boy child the king expects. From the moment she gives her fateful answer, Avis becomes embroiled in an extravagant world of intrigue, deceit and murderous plotting that is far removed from her lowly home life in the king’s kitchens at Greenwich Palace.

She becomes an unwilling participant and watcher in the alliances and misplaced loyalties of court life as the King wages religious war with the Pope and the churches while changing wives and mistresses in his relentless pursuit of a male heir. Whispers, lies and rumours abound as the Queen fights for her survival and Avis struggles to balance her life of opulence in the royal chambers with the humble world of her baker parents and a mysterious suitor.

Anyone who has followed my blog for a while will know of my fascination with The Tudors, especially Henry and his wives. I rarely pass up the chance to read about them and this cover certainly caught my eye. It has been on my TBR since January this year but I had been trying to get it since June 2016!

Top Ten Tuesday-Books on my Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/

NB: I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow them to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account.

I put together a summer reading list just a week ago so it was a matter of picking ten of the books I want to read before the end of August!

1) JR Tate-Drought Warning
This is book two in an extreme weather trilogy. I've read and enjoyed the first one, so I aim to read the other two before the end of summer.

2) Jaye Wells-Green Eyed Demon
I seem to have no motivation to read urban fantasy at the moment but I need to get this series done for my series catchup challenge. This is book three out of five.

3) Kate Emerson-The Pleasure Palace
This is on the list for my Royal Challenge and it follows the story of a young woman at Court who was an alleged mistress of Henry VIII.

4) Hunter Shea-The Montauk Monster
This is my dad's favourite Hunter Shea book and he wants me to hurry up and read it!

5) Jeff VanderMeer-Annihilation
Just recently bought the film cheap and want to read the book first, though I'm worried about everyone saying both are weird!

6) Chris Jameson-Shark Beach
A recent addition and I want to get to this one very soon. Great cover and I'm looking forward to it!

7) Nick Robinson-Election Notebook
I'm trying to plough through the cheap hardbacks on my shelf from charity shops and this political non fiction book will be one of my next reads!

8) Lee Dunter-Crowded But Desolate
One of the many zombie books that are lurking on my e-reader. I'm a bit in two minds with this so want to make it a priority to deal with.

9) Hugo Navikov-The Found World
I've read another dinosaur book by the author which was decent and this is only about 130 pages. Another priority read.

10) Conn Iggulden-Darien
There are a few fantasy books that I grabbed in charity shops over the last 18 months and this is one of them. I based my choice on knowing the author so I'll see what it's like.
