Top Ten Tuesday-Ten Horror Books With Dangerous Trips #5

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/

NB: I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow them to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account.

Since it's still the Spooky Season, I'll go with a horror theme and ten books I want to read that feature dangerous trips, part 5!

1) Cameron Roubique-Kill River
In the summer of 1983, thirteen-year-old Cyndi and her three new-found friends Stacy, Zack, and Brad decide to sneak away from their summer camp in the middle of the night by rafting down the nearby rivers. After spending a tense night lost in the woods, the four teenagers stumble into a mysterious water park that appears to be completely empty. At first, they are thrilled to have the rides all to themselves, at least until one of them disappears. Soon they discover that they are trapped in the park, and a dark figure is stalking them from the shadows, picking them off one by one. Once night falls, Cyndi will have to fight to escape the park, a masked maniac, and a living nightmare.

2) James Sabata-Fat Camp
Since 1985, over 500 overweight teenagers have come to Camp Wašíču, looking to lose weight, gain self-confidence, and turn their lives around. Phillip McCracken arrives, weighing in at almost 400 pounds, but the baggage he carries from the past affects him much more deeply than the numbers of the scale. When a homicidal maniac hell-bent on revenge attacks, Phillip will be forced to either find the courage to save the people around him or fall victim to his own self-doubt…and possibly a machete.

3) David A Simpson-Convoy Of Carnage
After decades of planning, the contagion was unleashed and overnight hundreds of millions died and came back as rampaging, undead monsters. The living that had been lucky enough to survive the first day of carnage, lucky enough to be in the right place and lucky enough that some of them had the skills they needed, soon found out there was much more to worry about than just zombies. In the high desert on the outskirts of Reno, there is an old truck stop frequented by a mix of hard caliber truckers, day tourists, musicians and travelers. They have survived the chaotic first hours of contact with the undead and now must make their way across the country to a location they believe is safe. Zombies are only the beginning of their troubles as they try to cover the thousands of miles of open road with their hastily armored 18-wheelers.

4) Gaby Triana-Island Of Bones
When Ellie Whitaker leaves her dead-end job behind to spread her grandmother's ashes in tropical paradise, the last thing she expected was to face more ghosts. But darkness lurks inside her nana's ancestral home. Ellie's presence stirs up its energies. And as a hurricane creeps closer to the island, she must hurry to discover long-buried truths. About her treasure-hunting grandfather's death in 1951. About the curse her grandmother left behind. About the innkeeper next door with an evil secret. And the spectral visions she keeps having. Some there to help her. Some to make sure Ellie becomes a ghostly resident of haunted Key West forever.

5) Russ Watts-Megalodon Riptide
When Luke arranged a deal for safe passage on a trawler he thought he had found a way to save his family. The skipper was an old friend who knew the ocean, and how to hunt. But there was something that none of them had encountered before, a terrifying creature from the cold depths of the ocean that rose up and killed mercilessly. The Megalodon was supposed to be a myth, a prehistoric relic consigned to history books. As Luke is stalked by the monster, he realizes that keeping his family safe is only the beginning of his problems. The hunters are about to become the hunted.

6) Anna Willett-Backwoods Ripper
A country drive quickly turns into a nightmare for newly-weds Paige and Hal Loche. When you are in the bush, pregnant, and your husband is hurt what do you do? Will you trust just about anyone? When their car gets a flat tire in the Australian outback, it should be a simple job for capable Hal to fix. His wife pregnant, he sets to it. But an accident befalls him, leaving him immobilized. Paige is now their only hope of getting out of the bush. When Paige chances upon a stranger, it seems her prayers are answered. But the stranger doesn’t want to help. She wants something else, and it’s not Paige’s husband. Hal is expendable, piece by piece it seems, but her baby isn’t. What will Paige do to protect her unborn child, and at what price?

7) David Wood-Primordial
Sometimes, the legends are true. When eccentric billionaire, Ellis Holloway, hires renegade marine biologist, Sam Aston, to investigate the legend of a monster in a remote Finnish lake, Aston envisions an easy paycheck and a chance to clear his gambling debts. But he gets much more. There is something terrible living beneath the dark waters of Lake Kaarme and it is hungry. As the death toll mounts, Aston faces superstitious locals, a power-hungry police chief, and a benefactor's descent into madness as he races to find the legendary beast of the lake.

8) Cherie Priest-The Toll
Titus and Davina Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car . . .When, much later, a tow-truck arrives, the driver finds Titus lying in the middle of the road, but Davina is nowhere to be found.

9) Hunter Shea-Ghost Mine
Deep in a Wyoming mine, hell awaits. Nat Blackburn is given an offer he can't refuse by President Teddy Roosevelt. Tales of gold in the abandoned mining town of Hecla abound. The only problem - those who go seeking their fortune never return. Along with his constant companion, Teta, a hired gun with a thirst for adventure, Nat travels to a barren land where even animals dare not tread. Black-eyed children, strange lights and ferocious wild men venture from the deep, dark ghost mine...as well as a sinister force hungry for fresh souls.

10) Camille Picott-Undead Ultra
For ultrarunners Kate and Frederico, a typical Saturday morning is spent pounding out a twenty- to thirty-mile “fun run.” It’s during one of their runs that an insidious illness descends upon northern California, turning humans into flesh-shredding zombies. When Kate receives a desperate call from her son, Carter, she and Frederico flee their hometown and set out to help him. The only problem? Carter attends college over two hundred miles away and the freeways—clogged with car wrecks, zombies, and government blockades—are impassable. Running back roads and railroad tracks becomes their only means of travel, but neither of them has ever run so far before. As pain, injuries, hunger, and fatigue plague them, getting to Carter and staying alive seem impossible. It’s either outrun the undead or become one of them, and for Kate, death is not an option.

Autumn Blues #5

Sorry guys, we haven't been around much this last week or so.

Dave here, catching you all up on our latest news again! The weather has been cold and wet again and those pesky storm systems are hitting us this weekend. Makes you want to curl up in front of the fire but not too close, with my fur being a bit flammable. Roasted pumpkin might sound great to some twisted individuals out there but it's no fun for me I tell you!I did at least survive the genocide committed against my kin every year at H*******n so I'm grateful to my mum and grandpa for giving me this safe home to live in! My relatives all survived the Purge too.

Right, explaining needs to be done for Mum's vanishing act this week. Basically Mum was feeling a bit run down overall but nothing serious. She decided to concentrate on dealing with deliveries during the week. Every cardboard box that arrives needs to be ripped into small pieces for the recycle bin and her fingers have been pretty sore these last few weeks with all the Amazon stuff. In between that it was the pesky housework so not much time online this week at all. WHY is there so much housework? Where does that piggin' dust come from??? Also constantly chasing the cats and bigger birds who keep annoying the squirrels feels like a full time job!

On Saturday, a full on storm hit. Poor Mum and Grandpa had to go out in the gusting wind and pelting rain to steady the old fence in the front garden (we lost the back fence last year in a similar November storm). It was bending over alarmingly and the poor squirrels were clinging on for dear life so we had to move the bins from the bottom of the garden, putting one against each support post. We have four-grey for general rubbish, blue for cardboard and paper, green for cans and bottles and brown for garden and food waste. Our neighbours also place their bins along the fence on their side so all the bins saved our fence from blowing down. It was hard for me to watch them out in the driving rain and not be able to help them! Sometimes it can be hard to be a round ball shape, y'know?

Last night my mum decided to do the first part of the bedroom rearrangement that she really hasn't wanted to do. It looked like a half hour job but turned into a three hour slog. There was a lot of stuff to sort through for the bin, paperwork put in a pile for shredding, rearranging items, then putting everything back. It was awful to watch! Mum's back was really sore at the end of it so I fed her some chocolate to cheer her up! It was probably a mistake to mention to her that the worst part is still to come. Next she has to empty three bookcases and move the contents out to the hall, take one apart, move the others into a new position, move everything back into the two bookcases, stack the excess books, empty and move a cd unit...that could all take a couple of days!!! It'll be a nightmare! Not sure when that is getting done but not looking forward to it!

Stay safe everyone!
luv Dave

Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Sorry for another week of just not being around. All will be explained by Dave on my Autumn Blues post which will be coming today or tomorrow. I've been so busy this last few days it hasn't even been funny! Now it is a few days of trying to rest, relax and catch up with everything which is going to be a riot when I've been letting everything slide recently. But more of that later.

I've been good this week and not bought any books. I'll be going into my non buying hibernation in the next month so I sort of have two weeks to get the last of the things I'll be needing. I have been concentrating on a chocolate supply for the winter to keep me going! My dad and I love our peanuts so that has been a priority too. Everything is being delivered to our door. The virus seems to be out of control everywhere at the moment so my dad and I are staying in our house and garden other than twice a week maximum to go to the local shops if we need anything like bread and milk. Otherwise we intend to avoid contact with people!

Reading has been good this week despite how busy things have been. I've read two of those big Harry Potter behind the scenes books, which were both fun, and also re-read The Philosopher's Stone just because I felt like it. Oh, because I've missed four days of blogging, I'm extending my Halloween posts into this week and maybe next week to get them all posted. It hasn't been the Spooky Booky month I hoped for but events took over really. This coming week is going to be busy but I do hope to be around more.

Chuckles Blogging World
Of course I'm way behind in everything which is a surprise to nobody! I'll be catching up with you guys over the next few days.

Tackling The TBR

Films & TV & Music
Nothing new to report really. Just a lot of Harry Potter and trying to avoid the news channels which are on left wing snowflake overdrive at the moment. I'll also be glad when the US election is over though it could end up in a court if the result is disputed.

The Week Ahead
A lot of work around the house!

Tackling The TBR

In December 2018 I launched Tackling The TBR, a challenge to reduce the ever extending TBR pile and 2019 was pretty successful in that regard. In 2020 I intended to make a big effort to reduce my TBR by buying less, getting stuff read and getting rid of the things that I just don't want to read from my bookshelves and my ereaders Maurice and Myrnin! However the darn Coronavirus Pandemic has put the skids under all my plans and I had to suspend the challenge. I've now decided to bring it back in a bid to kickstart my TBR reduction as nothing else has been working.

The TBR total shown is the total number of books I own but have not read yet-wishlist books are NOT in my TBR! Sometimes there will be a difference between the books read and new total-if I read a book not on the TBR it counts for books read for the week but not for this challenge.

BOOKS IN
-Books in refers to bought, downloaded or gifted books being added to the TBR list.

BOOKS OUT
-Books read refers to books read that were ON the TBR and DNFed is obvious.
-Deleted from the TBR are books I lost interest in reading, or sequels to DNFed books I no longer want to read and have been removed without starting to read them. These three categories added together are my books 'out'.

I'm posting my progress on the 7th, 14th, 21st and final day of the month as before, even if there is no progress to report and anyone else is welcome to join in. No rules, set up your posts how you want and when you want, just reduce the pile! And each week I'll add my new week to the end of the post so I can track how the whole month went.

October 1st-7th
TBR Start Total: 1538

BOOKS IN:
New Books In: 1

BOOKS OUT:
Books Read: 0
Books DNF: 0
Others Deleted From TBR: 0

Target Total: 1500

New Total: 1539

Sorry I'm a couple of days late with this one. My brain has been all over the place this week! One new addition but it's a 29 page prequel and I intend to read it tonight. No more excuses, I need to start reading this week and get back in my groove no matter how tired I am.

I found MORE that I hadn't put on Goodreads. It's depressing. On the bright side I did read a couple of books which is better than nothing I guess. Still haven't read any horror and half the month is gone. Grr. Well, maybe next week!

This week I did splurge on big Harry Potter volumes and a few other books which takes the total up again. I did read three books but one doesn't count for TBR purposes because it is a Harry Potter re-read. I was in the mood for starting the series again and thought 'sod it'. I'm in a small rut with this challenge but I still have two months of the year to go!
