What's on Chuckle TV #13

Welcome to Chuckle TV!
Every week I will be talking about what I have been watching in the world of TV, be it sport, documentaries, TV series, films, soaps or interesting news items. I'll be talking about favourites from the past and all the great sounding stuff that I haven't watched yet. Believe me, there are a lot of popular series that I haven't had the chance to see! Let the Count and I be your guide in the world of entertainment! Comments are welcome on what I'm currently watching but no spoilers please or your comments will not be published!

So this week I was watching a few more of the dvds that I bought in from the sales, remembering how much I liked them and regretting that I don't have more time to watch them! That is the grand plan for 2015. Get as much reading as I can done over the winter to reduce the tbr down to a more manageable level, only buy or downloads books I REALLY want to read instead of just grabbing piles of freebies, fit in 2-4 hours of reading every day to catch up, and when I read the first book in a series, make sure I complete it while it's fresh in my mind! By next winter I hope to have made a huge dent in my books so I can start re-reading old favourites when I feel like it and catch up on films and tv that I'm way behind on!

This was one of the best heist films that I've watched because of the mix of characters in it. Andy Garcia was the perfect slimy bad guy, the two brothers who can't stop fighting were very funny, the gymnast who doesn't speak English...the team were the perfect mix. The actual plan for the heist was really good and it was fun to watch it all unfold. The only thing that bugged me was bringing in the inevitable love story which was annoying. In Ocean's Twelve, the love story in that film totally ruined the plot which is why I never bought it.

I LOVED this film when I first saw it and it was beautifully directed with the tension of the storm and the wonderful character development. You really did care about the guys and it was heartbreaking to know that they all died out there before even watching the film. I was blubbering like a baby at the funeral scene. Excellent acting from the entire cast especially George Clooney. I'd like to add a special mention to John C Reilly, one of the most underated actors around.

I remember the first time I watched this film, being mad that the newspapers ruined the plot by giving away the early twist in the plot. The film was one of the best hostage dramas that I've seen. Kurt Russell was excellent as always and the entire cast were just perfect in the roles including the brilliant Oliver Platt, also vastly underated. The plot was exciting, the tension constantly building and you never quite knew what was going to happen next. Great film.

Stacking the Shelves #61

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews
Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! Click on the link under the book to find its page on Goodreads or Smashwords.

Please note that I always leave a message on your STS/SP if you visit me, but if you use DISQUS or a similar third party I will not be able to leave a comment on your page. And sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress.

This has been another week where I've hardly been online to post on my blog. Things around the house have had to be done so I'm giving that priority. I'm hoping I'll have time to upload some book reviews today and get back on the horse this week, so to speak. The books listed today are ones that I ordered before and during the Black Friday sales and have arrived during the week. Over the next few weeks I won't be ordering from Amazon so my STS should just be any online bargains that I find on my travels. I'm saving myself for the Boxing Day and New Year sales now!

Reading with Chuckles #15

Welcome to Reading with Chuckles! This is where I fill you in on what I'm reading each week-what it is, where I got it or heard about it, what I think of it, if I'm continuing with it or abandoning it and any special offers I'm aware of where you can try the book yourself. Comments are welcome but no spoilers please! It's not fair to other readers!

I am now on to my winter readathon. This means I'm turning my attention to series that I've started and liked but never got round to finishing. So I hope to get through a LOT of books and catch up with a few favourites!

This week I completed Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series with a couple of anthologies. I moved on to re-read Wages of Sin which I liked, and the follow up short story which features in Strange Brew before trying the rest of the trilogy. Sadly I didn't really take to book two and chose not to continue. I then started the final book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. Sob! No more Cat and Bones!

As sea levels rise and livable landmasses shrink, the Reorganized United States of America has instituted population control measures to ensure there are sufficient resources and food to sustain the growing population. Birth authorization must be paid for and obtained prior to having a child. Someone must die before another can be born, keeping the country in a population neutral position at what experts consider to be the optimal population. The new laws are enforced by a ruthless government organization known as Pop Con, responsible for terminating any children resulting from unauthorized births, and any illegals who manage to survive past their second birthday, at which point they are designated a national security threat and given the name Slip.

But what if one child slipped through the cracks? What if someone knew all the loopholes and how to exploit them? Would it change anything? Would the delicate resource balance be thrown into a tailspin, threatening the lives of everyone? And how far would the government go to find and terminate the Slip?

In a gripping story of a family torn apart by a single choice, Slip is a reminder of the sanctity of a single life and the value of the lives we so often take for granted.
