F.R.I.E.N.D.S Book Tag

I saw this tag through a bloglovin search on https://kristinkravesbooks.wordpress.com/. It was created by Roxanne at https://anaveragelife.org/. Please use her header and link back to her blog.

Interested? You're tagged!

1) MONICA
A book based on a game or competition.
This was a great book that I don't see many people showcasing and it's really good with a deadly trials opening half and a Hunger Games vibe in the second half. Great characters and a solid plot without the worst YA tropes.

Organisational Queen-How do you organise your books?
I have just done a revamp of all my bookshelves and they are sorted by genre, then alphabetical by author within the genre. I have a book sorting version of OCD so my mass market paperbacks are in a bookcase to themselves sorted by genre then author, even if it means seperating a series! I hate doing that but I hate my books on a shelf looking like a city skyline with different sized books all next to each other!

2) RACHEL
A book you read for the hype.
I don't read based on the hype around a book. I read it purely if I want to read it. I don't read contemporary, romance or a lot of the popular YA stuff so a lot of my books come in under the radar and are lesser known. I'm going with a book a few of my friends liked and I decided to try it for myself.

Shopping Addict-What makes you buy a book?
In a real bookshop, a combination of the title and cover will make me pick it up to look at it and then the blurb has to sell me. The same goes for Amazon-I'll have my attention caught by the title and cover but I'll only buy it if the book sounds good!

3) ROSS
A science fiction book.
It's not my favourite book genre so I don't read that much in it. This is a book I'm planning to read and review next month. I read it years ago but remember little about it!

On a break-Which books have you put down to pick back up later?
Once I quit a book, that is a DNF and I never go back to it. If circumstances like illness force me to stop reading a book I was enjoying, I will of course go back to it when I feel better.

4) CHANDLER
A book that made you laugh out loud.
Most of the humour I see is in my urban fantasy books. I can't fail to laugh at the brilliant Oberon in this series. Also have to mention The Murderbot Diaries with the unexpected humour!

That time at Space Mountain-Are there any books you're embarrassed to admit you've read?
I read what I want to read so I'm never embarrassed about what I read. I read for myself and nobody else. If other people go all book snobby about my choice of read, as they done in the past, they can just sod off!

5) JOEY
A scary book you'd keep in the freezer.
I don't think I've ever been scared reading a book! I read all kinds of nasties! This is a gory one that is not for the fainthearted.

V is for encyclopedia-As an adult, have you read any books with words you had to look up to understand?
I'm way to lazy to look up every word I don't understand. I can usually guess the general meaning form the sentence but even if I don't, I can never be bothered with the hassle of looking it up as I don't have a dictionary to hand most of the time.

6) PHOEBE
A book with a spiritual or supernatural theme.
This was an impulse read as I don't read much YA paranormal but it was a good solid plot with great characters, a shape shifting man/guide dog, demon spirits and an MC who is blind and won't leave the house.

The boycott-Are there any authors, booksellers, or publishers you refuse to support?
I don't like hearing really bad tales of authors behaving badly and doing things like getting fans to hassle readers who don't love their books or a campaign to down-vote rival authors and their books etc. I'm lucky that most of the problem stuff I see is in genres I don't read and authors that don't interest me. If I really love the series I'll reluctantly put up with a minor author hissy fit but I am bothered by it.

7) JANICE
A book with an OH MY GOD twist.
I hate continually using Harry Potter but it has to be the end of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I yelled in horror when I first read it!

8) EMILY
A British classic.
I don't read the actual classics but this is a great British horror book!

9) GUNTHER
A book nobody seems to be talking about.
A few urban fantasy books I gave 5 stars to never seem to be on other blogs!

10) CAROL & SUSAN
An LGBTQ+ book or author.
I have no clue about the sexual orientation of pretty much all of the authors of my book collection. I don't pay any attention to that or where they live or come from. Thankfully there is one I do know and there are also excellent gay characters.

11) EDDIE
A book or character with intense/stalker vibes.
The ultimate stalker!

12) MIKE
A slow burning book or romance novel
I don't read romance novels and I'm not keen on slow burning books. So I'm just picking a book with that in the title as a cheat!

13) RICHARD
A book that left you feeling accomplished or better educated.
I don't get that kind of feeling after reading a book! I read and either like, love or don't like it! I don't read for such lofty goals, just entertainment! I do like finding out what is going on behind the scenes of political parties and elections which is why I read these kinds of books. I've read the extracts but intend to read the full diaries.

BONUS-Which character do you most identify with?
I'm probably a mix of Monica and Chandler. I have Monica's obsession with having things the way I want them and being organised. I have Chandler's sarcasm and humour.

  1. I was never a huge fan of FRIENDS, but this is a cute tag. Oberon, dear Oberon. I WILL start that series someday. Hey, I saw the other day they are making a graphic novel for the Iron Druid books. All I could think of was all the cool art of Oberon that must be in it. I also thought of you and even though I don't think you read a lot of graphic novels, I know how much you love this series.

    1. I liked the show but never saw the last couple of seasons for some reason. Not sure why but I might still get round to it. I love how annoying Janice was! It would be fun to see the artwork in Iron Druid. I wouldn't have the space to collect graphic novels too!

  2. I think I missed the last couple of Friends seasons too. There are character names here that I don't recognise!

    1. I still have to read the final Iron Druid book to complete the series. Sad to say goodbye to Oberon!

    1. Hounded is urban fantasy with a foul mouthed Irish pensioner, a 'talking' dog obsessed with sausages and poodles and a vampire that has trouble with modern slang. Lots of laughs in this series! Murderbot is a security robot obsessed with SF TV series and has social anxieties over dealing with humans which can be pretty funny!

  7. I will be completely honest. I have never ever seen 1 episode of FRIENDS before. Overall this was a lovely post to read! It gave me a couple of suggestions for the next book I should read, specially The Testing since it's similar to The Hunger Games.
