Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish
in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of
2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to
bring bookish friends together. http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/
NB: I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow them to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account.
To be honest I've never greatly cared about bookstores or libraries I'll never visit so I'll skip that one. This week I'm looking at carnivals and theme parks that you just don't want to visit!
1) JG Faherty-Carnival of Fear
Inside the Castle of Horrors, the scene in each horror themed room is played out for real when the door closes. Survive the terror in each room and then you might have a chance to escape Hell itself. One of my favourite Indie horror books!

2) Steve Harris-Adventureland
What do you do when your child goes missing at the carnival or you witness your friends being murdered in the Ghost Train and nobody cares? You set out to destroy the evil...I really enjoyed this horror offering and need to reread it again soon.

3) Patrick Lacey-Dream Woods
Dream Woods was closed amid stories of death, murder and a gateway to Hell but now it is open again to grab new souls to feast on. Decent horror tale.

4) Richard Laymon-Funland
People in a resort town are tired of the aggressive homeless problem so some teenagers take the law into their own hands. But it stirs up something evil that must be confronted in the Funhouse. It's not my favourite Laymon book but the Funhouse bit was great!

5) Matthew Reilly-The Great Zoo of China
The Chinese are opening a theme park with dragons as the main attraction, held inside the park by technology. But when the technology fails during preview day, the guests are on the menu. Great Jurassic Park style thriller.

6) Michael Crichton-Jurassic Park
A park with cloned back from extinction breaks down during a tour for experts and the people are on the dinner list. Classic book and a film series that I love!
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12596223-jurassic-park
7) Carolyn McCray-Salechi
A conservation and tourist attraction built on a coral reef features a wide range of sharks. But when a storm hits, the sharks break into the flooding tunnels and eat the guests. I loved the sharks, the characters and the robotic chimp helpers that run the park. Lots of fun!

8) Christa Faust-Final Destination 3
When a student stops the crash of a rollercoaster from happening, the survivors start to die in the order they would have on the ride, and matters reach a head at a local festival as they try to evade death again. Loved this book and the film series.

9) Marie Hall-Crimson Night
Pandora is half demon and works with others of her kind at a carnival where they can feed off the human emotions. She kills evil creatures but now deadly priests are hunting her and an evil vampire club endangers everyone. Sex heavy plot but a good read.

10) Darren Shan-Cirque Du Freak
When Darren is forced to become a vampire assistant he joins the freak show and travels the country as a war brews between warring vampire enemies. Decent set of books with some great characters and plots and a few duff ones too.

I had a feeling you would do an alternative to this week's topic (so did I) and you did a great one. I added a few of these to my TBR and really can't figure out why I've not read the Great Zoo of China yet!
ReplyDeleteI love these dodgy theme park novels! There's just something exciting and scary about the attractions breaking out!
DeleteI need to read Jurassic Park someday. I saw the movie when I was a kid. It’s probably time to read the thing!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The book is a bit different from the first film but a lot of fun! Some of the scenes in films 2 and 3 are in this book.
DeleteI don't know. I wouldn't mind visiting some of these...if I knew for sure that I'd get out alive. ;D
ReplyDeleteIf everything stayed in their cages, some would be great to visit!
DeleteFun topic! I am just impressed that I actually know some of these. I think I would skip that carnival in Something Wicked This Way Comes too.
ReplyDeleteI've never got round to reading this one so maybe it's time I did!
DeleteI'm familiar with a couple of those parks and if the others are anything like them, I'm in. :-)
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I'm always looking for more of this kind of read. I'm already working on another list of ten!
DeleteI must admit, I wouldn't mind visiting Jurassic Park -- without any dinosaurs escaping!
ReplyDeleteYeah I love dinosaurs so I'd want to go to a park like that!
DeleteOh I love your spin on this topic! There's something so ridiculously creepy about the idea of an empty theme park. I would like to visit Jurassic Park but not the version where the dinosaurs are not coming to kill me!
ReplyDeleteJurassic Park and Jurassic World would have been great to visit!
