This week the work continues! *GROANS* Today I did my final shopping for the food cupboard so now it is full to capacity as is the fridge and freezer. I'm loaded for bear and ready for winter! Just need to top up the stock of water and low/no sugar drinks and we're all set.
Today we've been working hard again, getting stuff moved. Our hall is completely clear of crap now other than a few bags set up for charity shop, rubbish dump and recycle bin. All of this will be gone by the end of the week though. The living room is almost organised with maybe another few hours later this week to get everything sorted and into its place. My computer desk is tidied as well. I do still have a few piles of newspapers to cut for my scrapbooks but that will take me the whole winter, doing a bit at a time, so that won't be done anytime soon. My bedroom is pretty much done now. Over the winter I'll be sorting through my cds and deciding what I'm keeping and what can go to the charity shop, as I don't get much chance to listen to music now. I have to tidy up the TV unit a bit but might tackle that one night this month. Other than that and cutting up some magazines, I think I'm done with that.
My dad's room is where the work really needs to be done and that is what we're working on this week. He still has to build his new cd unit. We then need to split his cd collection-half to be stored in those two units in his room, the rest in the hall. He'll be gradually sorting through each cd deciding what to keep and what to send to the charity shop. This is the time consuming and tiring bit, doing all the lifting and carrying. The good thing is that we can see progress being made and we are getting there!

We also want to try and finish the patio area in the back garden before winter kicks in. Basically we need to put bags of earth around three sides of it to level it off, which we hope to pick up later this week. Then we buy in the bags of gravel to go on top of the soil to get it to the height of the patio, ready for future planting!
And now the saga of the fence. In August we asked a guy for a quote. It took three weeks for him to finally come and look at and measure the job. He said he'd come back the next day with a quote and if we were happy, he'd start the following day which was September 7th. That was the last we saw of him and it is now mid-October! My dad is super pissed at being messed around and now we are scrambling to find someone else to take on the job before the winter kicks in, but we've had no luck so far. We have a few more places to try but our hopes aren't high. Meanwhile, the slugs and snails are winning the battle with my dad but we still have a few more tricks to try yet!
Winter is when we have nice weather and that's when we start purging and cleaning up the house/outside.
ReplyDeleteWe've had trouble with tree people before. One guy had equipment issues in the middle of a job and never came back so we had to get a new (more expensive) guy to finish. Luckily, we hadn't paid the full amount yet.

Stupid workmen are more trouble than they're worth! I wish I had the tools and the energy to just do it myself! These guys are so unreliable. We're hoping to have everything done by the end of the month so we can put our feet up over the winter in front of the TV!
Deletewow you and your dad are really doing a lot! I'm not surprised its taking that long to go over all the CDs. Getting rid of music IS HARD! With so many things donated, everything must look so big and different :) Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased with my room, the hall is looking OK, the living room nearly done...my dad's room looks like the music shop store room but that'll be sorted soon, and the kitchen has a couple of jobs needing doing. Overall I'm pleased with progress! Getting rid of the music will be time consuming but it'll be worth it to get space back!
DeleteWow, that's some poor service on the fence. Things like that can be frustrating. Mr. Barb has a guy he has spoken to about helping with a kitchen remodel but we're having a hard time nailing him down to a written quote. We were okay with the price, but just wanted it in writing. Sad thing is he lives 2 doors down and we still can't pin him down. You must feel so accomplished at having all that shopping done.
ReplyDeleteI could hit that man, I really could!!! Two months wasted and now Winter Is Coming! Such a waste of our time. Sounds like that guy you are trying to hire really doesn't want a paperwork trail!
DeleteI hate it when people give you quotes for jobs and then never come back or follow through. Talk about frustrating! And good luck moving all your dad's CDs. Sounds like it'll be quite the job.
ReplyDeleteThis guy vanished before he even gave us the quote! It's so frustrating! My dad has a huge collection of cds so it is taking a lot of time to sort!
DeleteThat's a lot going on. It always gets me when a contractor doesn't seem to want to work. Odd as it's their livelihood. I hope you find someone.
ReplyDeleteIt's just taking too long to find reliable people with good reputations then they are too busy to take on the job this year. Grrr.
DeleteI hate having to hire people to do anything. It always ends up being a will they/won't they show situation and drives me crazy!
ReplyDeleteIt's very stressful hiring people, hoping they aren't cowboy builders and hoping they actually turn up!
DeleteWOW, you guys have been busy. I can't wait to see your bookshelves once you are done. We have our cd's in boxes from when me moved 3 years ago. They need to come out and get put in shelves. Yeah, here is to hoping that happens soon. =)
ReplyDeleteMary
Photos are up today of my room! Ugh, that'll be the down side of moving home-packing then unpacking!
DeleteI don't get why they wouldn't come back. Are they really that busy? Sounds like you are making great progress and I wish you luck with the fence...and the slugs and snails.

We're going to need a miracle with the fence at the moment! At least things indoors are going to plan!
