Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!
Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Every week I feel amazed that another week has passed by! Mid August! I'm hoping that the heatwaves are over for us now as it has been cloudy pretty much every day. Nice! We are meant to be getting a storm coming in today but there is no sign of it yet. Storm season is the down side to the end of summer but I'm not going to complain about it because other countries have tornados to deal with. We get off lightly here.
It's been a good reading week since my last weekend post! I DNFed two books straight away but have read 2 books, 2 novellas, one cartoon book and I'm halfway through another book that I'll finish today. Yea! I'm pretty pleased with that actually! Naturally I have been book buying as a treat to myself, as you do, so I have new books to share with you this week plus gifts!

That book loving friend of my neighbour gave me these books!
GIFTS FROM DAD!
He knows how much I loved the Barnyard film and I can't wait to catch up with Otis and the gang again! Also here is the audio cd of Glass Houses, the first book in the Morganville Vampires series, which he saw going cheap!
Chuckles Blogging World
It was an interesting week on the blog. I've reconnected with a couple of bloggers I used to follow and through the TTT blog list thing I've found a few more new blogs to follow, which is exciting! I've decided I'm going to follow a few horror related ones that either use DISQUS, where I can't comment, or where the blog owner isn't following/commenting back. I won't comment on them but I might see some good book recs. I'm a bit behind going into the weekend so I have some catching up to do, which is why this is being posted Saturday instead!

Lots of reading this week and I dealt with the three I chose last week. I DNFed The Last One and The Sandcastle Empire, both of which disappointed me, but I did read and enjoy Jeff Menapace's Wildlife! I read the first two Murderbot books by Martha Wells which I LOVED, a poltical cartoon book which was unplanned but only took ten minutes, and read Stuart R West's Demon With A Comb-Over. Productive week! I'm also halfway through the first book in The Witcher series which I plan on finishing today. These three are next up!
If a blog doesn't allow comments, I don't even consider following them.
ReplyDeleteI actually unfollowed one blog because the guy went dot com, messed up the process for getting notified of new comments through email and told me he had no interest in fixing it. Buh-bye!
To me, comments are where it is at in regards to blogging. While I don't comment on every post of everyone I follow, I do try to comment as much as I can. I like it when people comment on my blog so I have to assume they like it when I comment on theirs. Of course, they have to be pretty blunt if they don't want me to comment. Something like "shove off mate". Thankfully, haven't had that yet :-D
My biggest issue is people using DISQUS. I get that it might work for them but I refuse to have anything to do with a company that declares it will do things like send tweets on your behalf. No thanks! That's my job! So I'm not following any blog where I have to get involved with them! There are a couple of people using this that have similar booky tastes so I'll keep an eye on them for recs but that's all!
DeleteIf a blog doesn't allow comments at all, I won't follow. One girl that kept leaving comments on my blog didn't let anyone comment on hers which I thought was weird and defeated the point of a blog!
I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Becky Chambers book. I need to read that one. I probably should have DNFed The Last One, too. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
It's a bit different from my usual reads but I likle the sound of the crew! Have a great week too!
DeleteYour books all look pretty awesome this week! Vengeance from the Deep looks fantastic (especially that first cover), and of course I'm always giddy for The Long way and Rogue Protocol. Which I still need to read! Love the look of Glass Houses too.
ReplyDeleteThe covers are great aren't they! I already want to buy the paperbacks! I'm hoping to read the third Murderbot next month if I can squeeze it in.
DeleteI doubt you're going to like Throne of Glass, but I'll be interested to see how you react... (I treat it like popcorn for my brain. :D)
ReplyDeleteI have my doubts too Nikki! I think I love the covers so much that I want to love the plots!
DeleteI am happy to hear that you have been enjoying the Murderbot books. I think that might be a series that I will need to grab at some point. You know that Grandma? book is kind of calling my name. I have Kindle Unlimited for 3 months so I may actually give it a try. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI'd heard so much about Murderbot that I had to try it and I really enjoyed it. A robot with social anxieties was really different!
DeleteOh wow! So many awesome books. I hope you enjoy Holes In The Ground. I loved it. And I spy some good ones I might grab for my 31 Days Of Thrills and Chills in October. Thanks for sharing all of those titles on my post today. I'm going to go check them out!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit worried about Holes in the Ground...I love Konrath but I wasn't keen on the other author when I tried Ravage. Hope the recs prove to be useful!
DeleteOhhhhhhh Throne of Glass is coming up!! I hope you'll enjoy the book :)
ReplyDeleteElle Inked @ Keep on Reading
I have serious doubts about it but you never know! I start it today!
DeleteYour new books are all so very blue in terms of color scheme, some beautiful covers there. I'm looking forward to hear what you think of The Long Way, I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I never noticed the colour similarities until you mentioned it! I do like blue and purple for book covers!
DeleteI see you comment on Barbs blog all the time and I keep meaning to check your blog on a regular basis but I forget so I have saved it and put it at the top of my bookmarks in hopes I remember. :)
ReplyDeleteI love creature books so I am curious about those Vengeance from the deep books! :)
Have a great week!
Stormi
Week in Review
With so many blogs out there, finding time is always a problem for me! It's nice to have you here Stormi! The vengeance books have such great covers so I'm looking forward to trying them soon!
DeleteThose sea books look awesome and I really enjoyed Revival - not to mention that I love that cover better than mine. You snagged some great books this week. Sorry I'm visiting late but Booker T is under the weather again. Hopefully we'll learn more tomorrow, but he's definitely put mom through the wringer this weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor Booker T. You must be worried sick and of course he must take priority Barb. Don't worry about comments or anything while he's poorly.
DeleteMy Lady Jane is tempting me. It looks like a good one and I really need to read more Stephen King. I read one novella and really enjoyed it but his page count keeps scaring me off. It's so fun to find blogs that read your genre. Sometimes it feels like it's hard to find something that isn't YA - or at least I feel that way sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI had hoped to get a ton of reading done this week but housework pretty much took over again! My Lady Jane is next on the list once I finish Strange Practice, which is good so far. Most of the blogs seem to be YA and romance or contemporary which can give me problems trying to leave a decent comment on posts! I've been trying to find horror and apocalypse readers but the few I found don't visit back which was disappointing!
DeleteI just got My Plain Jane so I have to get My Lady Jane to start this series. Stephen King looks good - I don't think I have read that one. I liked the Barnyard movie, I didn't know they made a series out of it. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMary
I'll only be reading the first one as Jane Austen doesn't really interest me. I liked My Lady Jane for the most part but her character was annoying for the first half of the book! For the Barnyard series there's about 100 episodes so I can't wait to watch them!
