Chuckles Chat #46 Blog Awards

Welcome to Chuckles Chat where great blogging minds unite to discuss the topics of the day mainly in the book and blogging world. I'll be sharing my thoughts on a topic and then inviting you all to share your thoughts. It's ok to disagree but PLEASE be respectful of each other's views! All of the comments on my blog are moderated and offensive posts ie racist, bigoted will not be published!

NB: I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow them to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account.

This week I'm looking at Blog Awards.

This is very much a love them or hate them kind of thing isn't it? When you start out on your blogging adventures, it can be very exciting to get a blog award for the first time, and feel that someone does actually like your blog and what you post. It can be a nice way to get chatting to other bloggers and feel part of the community. Once you have been around for a bit longer, you perhaps feel a bit jaded about the whole thing and see everyone and their dog getting the same award and it might startyou wondering if you were chosen because your blog is good or just because you haven't already had the award!

I wasn't very sure about taking part when I was first nominated. I was one of those people who hated chain letters where you had to send it on to a set number of people or terrible things would happen! I figured it was like that because you had to tag other people, and I didn't want to do that. There was also the issueof having to hunt down a pile of people who wanted to take part and hadn't already been chosen. In my first months of blogging, I just avoided book tags and I can't honestly remember the first people who tagged me.

After I got more settled in my blogging and spent more time going around the blogs, I noticed that the rules were not always being stuck to ie people were not choosing specific blogs to tag, and instead were leaving it as an open invitation to have the award if you wanted it. I liked this approach much better and it encouraged me to start taking part in a few. I quite enjoy answering some good questions about my book habits, my blogging and my hobbies and it is a different post to put on the blog along with the regular stuff.

The important thing to me when choosing a blog award to get involved with is the quality of the questions. I'm fine with answering anything to do with books as that is the main focus of the blog. I don't mind the odd question about films or music or something, or the quirky questions about your apocalypse plans! However I avoid the ones that ask things like your favourite colour, coffee habits, fashion, make up, clothes, reality TV and celebrities! I don't find these subjects interesting so I don't want to answer questions on it!

If there are good questions on interesting subjects I'm generally happy to take part and do a post. I especially like it when the blogger has thought up some really unique questions, which I do realise is difficult to do!

Do you like taking part in blog awards? What questions do you enjoy answering? Do you name specific people or do an open tag?

  1. I always thought “blog award” was just another name for “tag.” I’ve always treated them the same. I never tag anybody, and I don’t always follow the directions. It’s my blog; I can break rules if I want.

    1. I suppose they are the same in the grand scheme of things! Ah you're a rebel you are! *grins*

  2. I like them but it's been a long time since I did one. Some were just too many questions. I did break the rules often and, like you, invited people to join in or not.

    1. Some do have too many questions or too many that aren't interesting!I'm a rebel rulebreaker now...and I used to be such a nice child!

  3. I used to be all over them and follow the rules exactly. Now I too look at them as tags, but also a way to find new blogs. And I do feel everyone is able to make them their own.

    1. I'm more flexible on the rules as well. I mean, what is going to happen to you if you DON'T tag 15 people!!!

  4. I do them occasionally but I was the same way at first- pretty hesitant? It was nice to get tagged but at the same time I didn't want to aggravate people by tagging them, you know? In fact I just did one lol that I was tagged for MONTHS ago. I just answered the questions and isntead of tagging anyone, I just left it open.

    1. I was afraid I'd upset someone by tagging them if they don't like that kind of thing or them feeling insulted if I don't tag them! I think I worry too much!
