Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at http://www.wishfulendings.com/ to spotlight and discuss books we're excited about but haven't read, which may not even be released yet.

This Week-Vincent Keith
Are you ready for the End of the World? Jack thought he was. He'd spent years learning to live in a minimalist and sustainable way. He'd changed careers, and he had a plan. A plan just in case the worst happened. Unfortunately for Jack, he was far from home when disaster struck, when the end of the world as we know it came. Now he is on foot, with winter coming. Jack and his two dogs will need to trek over 750 miles to get home.
How do you cope when almost everything you depend upon is lost? When everything you've come to rely on stops working.
There was no way to predict a Solar Storm. There was no way to predict its enormous magnitude or the damage that it would do. What do you do when you can't call for help? When transportation stops and the lights go out? How hungry do you have to be to steal, to kill? What will people do when there is no law? Who can you trust?
Jack would most likely run out of food before he got home, even if nothing went wrong. But something had already gone wrong, and it was just the beginning. He had choices to make and no information. Every decision was a trade-off. Would he survive if he chose wrong? Jack was about to find out.
This book came out in October so by the time I post this CWW I might well already have it! I love the idea of this but I'm already worried about the dogs!
UPDATE! ***Bought it last week!***
You read my mind - what about the dogs? If they die, then this isn't the book for me! We were watching a horror movie the other night and there was a dog in the first few minutes - I knew it wouldn't fare well. I was right - and I turned it.
ReplyDeleteHope you love this one and that you will be able to answer my burning question!
I'm always worried about the dogs! However I just got this book on Saturday so it could be a while before I get round to reading it! I will let you know when I find out though!
DeleteI always wonder where are all the solar storm books!?? I never seen them that often around and yes! I always think about the pets!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember half the apocalypse books that are lurking on the ereaders but solar storms seem less used than straightforward EMPs. I love any kind of apocalypse disaster!
DeleteRead my mind too. The dogs?! I'm hopping over to check this out now.
ReplyDeleteWe always care more about the animals in these books than the humans!
DeleteOoh this looks good. Poor guy- does everything he can to prepare, and then when disaster strikes he's far away. Argh must be frustrating! I'm also thinking the dogs had better make it! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a common theme in the prepper books I read and a very enjoyable plot usually. You can prepare for everything except exactly where you will be if disaster strikes. Scary when you think of it!
DeleteThis sounds really interesting, Chuckles. I hope you enjoy it once you read it.
ReplyDeleteI aim to get to in within three years! *sighs* Too many books but I'll get there!
