Books From The Backlog-War Of The Roses

Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf.  You might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks. Go to Carole's blog and add your blog post link in to join in the fun! Hosted by Carole at https://carolesrandomlife.blogspot.co.uk/

This seems like a fun feature and I have been planning to take part since Carole launched this so at last, here we go! I have a TON of unread books to choose from in various genres and I'm looking forward to sharing some of them with everybody.

King Henry V - the great Lion of England - is long dead.

In 1437, after years of regency, the pious and gentle Henry VI, the Lamb, comes of age and accedes to the English throne. His poor health and frailty of mind render him a weakling king -Henry depends on his closest men, Spymaster Derry Brewer and William de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk, to run his kingdom.

Yet there are those, such as the Plantagenet Richard, Duke of York, who believe England must be led by a strong king if she is to survive. With England's territories in France under threat, and rumours of revolt at home, fears grow that Henry and his advisers will see the country slide into ruin. With a secret deal struck for Henry to marry a young French noblewoman, Margaret of Anjou, those fears become all too real.

As storm clouds gather over England, King Henry and his supporters find themselves besieged abroad and at home. Who, or what can save the kingdom before it is too late?

I have four books in this series which charts The War of the Roses and they are all fat volumes which is kind of intimidating to get started on! I started buying them in 2016 and bought the latest one at the end of August. I know I need to start them but I keep putting it off!

  1. You have invested way too much money not to read these, and if you enjoy historicals, this is certainly an interesting time period to read about.

    1. I love the time period and I'm sure I'll enjoy them but the size is so offputting when I know I can finish a 250 page creature feature book in a night! It's dumb I know but I get intimidated by thick books! I do intend to read them though.

  2. Wasn't that a TV series or something? I've heard of it but I can't remember where. Perhaps in High School. This goes back centuries and I have never read a good historical novel before. I like watching them sometimes. I loved European history.

    1. I'm not sure about tv series...my memory is shocking...but I think you're probably right as British tv loves doing period drama. I love reading and watching things set in the Tudor and Plantagenet period!

  3. This does sound really interesting. It can be really intimidating to start a series full of long books but I do hope you enjoy the series. I will be curious regarding your thoughts.

    1. I know I need to commit and start these but I keep putting them off the same way I do with the second part of A Dance With Dragons!

  4. I've got book one and yeah, these are hefty doorstoppers. But, they look good so hopefully you'll get lost in the pages once you start.

  5. I can see why you've hesitated on this one! That's quite a page count! This is a fascinating topic but I think this is one I'd have to take notes while I read to keep everything straight!

    1. Big slabs of books scare Chuckles! I'm looking forward to the actual plot though, once I steel myself to get started!
