Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish
in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of
2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to
bring bookish friends together. http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/

These were all books and series that I loved as a kid.
1) Enid Blyton-The Five Find-Outers
I loved Enid Blyton's many series and read a ton of her books as a kid. I liked Fatty and his dog. It was great to see a real anti-hero leading the group!
2) Roald Dahl-Fantastic Mr Fox
I always felt the farmers were very cruel to the poor fox and it had led to a real love for these animals over the years.
3) Stan Berenstein-Bears in the Night
This is the cutest picture book for young kids about bears on a midnight adventure! I still adore this book and look at it all the time.
4) Judy Blume-Blubber
I loved Judy Blume's book but this one shows how cruel kids can be to each other and how quickly a friend can become an enemy.
5) Alan Davidson-Queen Rider
I loved the battle between spoiled bitch Bonnie and her riding teacher and actually reread this book not too long ago.
6) Enid Blyton-Malory Towers
This was a series that made boarding school seem like something fun to do. In hindsight I'm glad I got to go home every night after school!
7) Roald Dahl-James and the Giant Peach
Despite my terror at the thought of mutant bugs, I really enjoyed this adventure, complete with the songs! I loved the sharks!
8) Francine Pascal-Sweet Valley High
Just about every 13 year old girl I knew read this series! My best pal was Team Elizabeth but I was always Team Jessica! I liked her selfish, wilder attitude!
9) Various-Cheerleaders
Who ever knew the amount of bitching and backstabbing could be around a cheerleading squad! I loved nasty Vanessa, and Nancy! I hated Mary Ellen for how she treats Patrick.
10) Walter Farley-Black Stallion series
I was horse crazy as a kid and this was my favourite hose series. I loved the ones that involved the horse racing and the one with the deadly virus threatening the horses.

I never read the Black Stallion series but I did read the Misty of Chincoteague series (spelling is off I'm sure) by Margeurite Henry. Wonderful books :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd Dahl, yes! I still like his childrens books...

I know I read Misty at some point as I couldn't get enough of the horse books! Phantom Horse, Silver Brumby, Jackie, Pony Club, all that kind of stuff! Sadly I no longer own them all due to lack of space!
DeleteI liked The Black Stallion books, too! I think the first one was my favorite, but I never finished the whole series.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I loved the ones that had the horse races in it-they were exciting to read but I never watch horse racing on TV!
DeleteColor me surprised by some of these. Cheerleaders and Sweet Valley High. I didn't expect that. Dahl's books were so wonderfully weird, and the Black Stallion is just such a classic. Judy Blume was definitely one of the most prolific authors of my childhood. From grade school to my teens - she covered it all.
ReplyDeleteAs a young teenager I read lots of romance like Sweet Dreams, SVH, Caitlin, Cheerleaders...but I sort of love interest in it as I got older and now I try to avoid it in my books where possible!
DeleteI loved James and the Giant Peach! And my sister had all of Farley's Black Stallion series. She loved those books, so much. I would have liked them better if there had been a girl in them. ;D
ReplyDeleteI was obsessed with the Black Stallion books-I still wish I'd kept them when I cleared out my childhood books!
DeleteOddly enough, I barely read as a kid O_O
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
You couldn't get me out of the library as a kid but I never go in now as our local is so out of date!
DeleteI read some Judy Blume books when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteYeah I really liked her books as a kid. It certainly covered all the topics that kids worried about at our age!
DeleteI ADORED the Black Stallion books and of course, Berenstein Bears. Such a fun list!
ReplyDeleteThe only Bears book I had was Bears in the Night-I never knew about the whole series about one Bear family until about 5 years ago!
DeleteAWESOME list!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Erica!
DeleteRonald Dahl is an awesome author! I have fond memories of his kid books.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Mr Fox was a favourite and I've loved foxes ever since then.
DeleteRoald Dahl books were a huge part of my childhood. I am so glad I can share that joy with my children today, I recently bought my oldest the RD box set full of my favorites when I was a kid.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
If I'd had kids, they would have been introduced to Roald Dahl for sure!
DeleteGreat picks! I don't think I read the Black Stallion series, though I read a lot of other horse books when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteI was obsessed by anything with horses in it. I also loved the Silver Brumby books!
DeleteWalter Farley's Black Stallion books would be on my list still. I still own all of them!
ReplyDeleteI wish I still owned them-I'd love to read them all again!
