Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Apologies for the lack of posts this week. Yet again I have been busy getting things done elsewhere on the computer and around the house and garden. I finished with the varnished fence in the front garden and we have all the paint in that we need for the other fence that will get two coats of a berry coloured paint. I'm waiting for my dad to finish sanding it so I can get on with it. It'll be next week before I do it. We straightened out my dad's room and most of it is tidy other than putting the last of his cds away. I put the stained glass stickers on the first of the windows in the hall and I really like the way it looks. I had a pile of the usual housework to fit in and I'm trying to get stuff deleted from the computer and organise things a bit better but these tasks all seem to take forever!

I read one book this week but I did DNF the first book in a couple of series, meaning two more bags of books ready for the charity shop. I have about seven waiting to go now so that clears a bit of space! It does mean that my TBR total has dropped a fair bit this week and I'm well on target to get my total dow below 1000 before the year ends so I'm pretty pleased with that! It's a pity I'm 15 books behind on my Goodreads total but there is still time to catch up before the challenge ends so I hope May is good for reading!

I tackled a few series this week that had poor reviews. I DNFed two of the first books, letting me delete the rest of each series from my TBR. The third series I did finish the first book but wasn't engaged enough to want to read on so that was more off the list! I'm planning to tackle a few more first books and series with poor reviews this week to see if I can finish or DNF any more books this coming week.

  1. Thrasher has an awesome cover and I guess I never realized Fright Night was a book - now I want to read it. Sounds like you got quite a bit done. I'm trying to get back in the swing of reading as you can imagine it's been a tad rough. Cass is doing fine though which has been my focus this week as he's never been an "only dog." I've got The Hiding Place on reserve through Overdrive and it's my "one more chance" for this author. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I can't recall if I read Fright Night when I first saw the film but I'll certainly look forward to reading it soon! I surprised myself with liking the first CJ Tudor book so I sort of had to grab this one.

I can't even imagine how bad it has been for you this week, with your furry guys being your children. It must have been such a horrible shock. I must admit I was quite upset myself and shed a good few tears for Booker T. I felt as if I did know him because of your blog, even though I never met him. Poor Cass...I hope he and Mr Barb are ok. I have been thinking of you all.

  3. I had no idea Fright Night was a book. I've seen the original movie hundreds of times because it's one of my favorite movies. Chris Sarandon made for one sexy vampire. Omg. I saw the remake and liked it but not as much as the original and I might have squealed when I saw that Chris Sarandon made an appearance in the movie, that was awesome.

    1. I love the original Fright Night film! Peter Vincent was pathetic, Ed was funny and Chris Sarandon was gorgeous! The soundtrack was great too! I haven't watched the remake as I'm not a fan of Colin Farrell.

  4. Sounds like a busy week and I love the idea of a berry covered paint on the fence. Too bad about the DNFs but I'm glad you didn't keep going with books that weren't working with you. I do that way too much!

    1. It should have a sort of pinky red raspberry look to it which will look nicer than the dull red fence paint we put on years ago! DNFs are good-it means my TBR is reducing and it has been a great week for that!

    1. I've been looking at the same apocalypse series sitting on my shelves for five years and knew I had to get dealing with them! A bit of a mixed bag and a lot of DNFs!
