This has been another week of hard work for Chuckles and her dad! My dad decided we needed more bookcases in the house so he bought one for dvds in the living room and one for my bedroom! (yea!) Yes I know, my room has nine bookcases already but I rearranged things so I could squeeze in another 3 shelf unit-one shelf for my audio books, plus a shelf each for dvds and excess hardbacks that have been lying around the house. I'm pleased with the results but my dad is knackered putting together these bookcases this week plus his big complicated cd unit-the one that had useless instructions that I mentioned in my other post. Last night I spent three hours getting my room sorted and finding homes for things so it is totally finished at last as far as tidying goes, which is a relief.
I've been busy in the rest of the house too. I am declaring that the kitchen is pretty much completed and tidied to my satisfaction. My next task is to put that stained glass effect stuff on four windows in the house-my bedroom, the bathroom, the hall window and kitchen. That would complete the work in the bathroom, my bedroom and the kitchen. It is just a bit of tidying in the hall (bags of books to the charity shop and empty boxes to the dump etc), my dad has cds to sort into his units in his bedroom and some general tidying, then the final room to be tackled is the living room which looks a bit chaotic at the moment. We need to find homes for things or dump them. After that I'll go round all the cupboards and toss anything else I don't need or want but that can be done at leisure as everything is out of sight so it isn't getting on my nerves yet! Things are progressing nicely though.
I have completed the first coat of varnish on the fence at the front of my house. It was really hard work as parts of the fence are down the side of an elevated driveway and hard to reach but it is looking nice. I think we might do the second coat next week if the weather is ok. We also have to do two coats of red paint to the fence at the other side of the front garden and paint the driveway gates before the front garden is complete. After that we need to tackle two coats of varnish on the big fence in the back garden and two coats of paint on the other fence in the back garden. *groans* Still a lot of work to do this spring and summer but my dad is getting a guy in to deal with the weeding, finishing the patio and stuff like that as we aren't really fit to do it. By the end of the summer the house and garden will finally be completed!
What DIY are you getting up to? Any spring cleaning going on?
Good job! You're getting there.
ReplyDeleteWe're closing on our FL house sale on Monday and then we start a search for a new house in our new state then I'll be back to home improvement projects too lol

That's good news for you! It'll be a relief to find your new home and finally get settled into it!
DeleteI don't enjoy spring cleaning...especially dealing with all the winter dead garden stuff. So good for you guys for tackling yours. I'm still hibernating. :D
ReplyDeleteWhoever buys the house beside ours will have a lot of garden work to do! I certainly hope it is a keen gardener or it will end up a right mess to live beside!
DeleteMy dad decided we needed more bookcases in the house
ReplyDeleteAlways a solid plan!
No DIY round here, but our wildflower seeds are stubbornly refusing to sprout, which is an annoyance. And a nosey neighbour decided we wanted our lawn mown and did it for us, cutting down all the dandelions I was saving for the bunnies to have a treat! Grr. Sounds like you're making good progress, though!
That is a real cheek having someone just come in and cut your grass without asking!
DeleteThat's awesome! I love getting organized and working on spring cleaning. We've been going room to room very slowly. Last night we sorted just the clothes handing in my husbands closet. He didn't put much in the donation bag, but it was still progress! :-D
ReplyDeleteThese tasks just seem to take forever don't they! I'm trying to think how great it will be when I'm done. I don't intend to lift a finger all through autumn and winter except normal stuff like washing and ironing. Here's to us both getting finished soon!
DeleteI'm tired just reading about all the work you're doing at the moment!
ReplyDeleteMost I've done by way of 'spring cleaning' is sort out clothes/shoes for donating as the kid is outgrown everything long before it's time! Everything is in such good condition it'd be terrible to send it to recycling. ☹️
I really need to go through the final boxes we stashed in the shed/attic when we moved but I keep putting it off... Maybe next weekend if it's nice. 😆
I guess I'm thinking the sooner it is done, the sooner I get to put my feet up and enjoy the house and garden! The front garden is coming along-I finished the second coat of varnish yesterday and it looks really shiny and nice! That kind of keeps me going! I still have bags of books that need to be donated to the charity shop. By the end of this weekend I'll have 7 bags ready to go!
DeleteI hire spring cleaning done because I hate it so much! I'm getting ready to start planting stuff though and am doing some closet purging. I have too much stuff! Good luck with all your projects! Sounds like you've got a lot going on!
ReplyDeleteWe're trying to get the final house projects done and the garden completed by the end of the summer so that the only thing left is clearing out cupboards and clothes and things which we'll do in the autumn! Lots going on in Chucklesville for sure!
DeleteI have been trying to do some spring cleaning myself before the next semester. I got some gardening done and I plan to plant my seeds this week. I am hoping for some tomatoes, cucumbers and some lettuce. It's a small garden and I am just trying it out. Plus, we are planting some seeds for the bees and the birds. =0) I will have to take pictures when it gets going.

Why is there always so much darn housework to do all the time! It never seems to end! I'd like to see the photos of your garden! I'm hoping to put photos up of ours once all this work is finished!
