Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!
Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Another week passes and I've been busy online as usual. No more cleaning yet as my dad has spent all week watching horseracing from Royal Ascot and the World Cup. It's given me time to plan out and prepare future posts for my blog. This week I've been watching old reruns of Ninja Warrior which has been fun, but no reading of any note. I did start reading the new Extinction Trials book this morning so I'll get stuck into that later today. On the book buying front things have eased off a bit but I still have a few to share. I grabbed a few Final Destination novels-the first two are from a spin off book series which has at least 6 in it, the third book is based on the third film itself. Hope to get more of these!
PAPERBACKS
GIFTED
A friend of my dad bought this for her granddaughter but she wasn't interested in it so it was given to me because they know I like books! Very nice of them, and although I wouldn't have bought it myself, I will read it.
Chuckles Blogging World
Managed to retain being seven weeks ahead in my meme and discussion posts which should give me more time to get some reviews written. This week sees the last of my Game of Thrones posts as they take ages to research and write and few people are responding to them.

Finally I feel ready to dive back into my books again! I'm just starting The Extinction Trials Exile and I'll be following that with a short horror novella called Dream Woods, then I'm moving on to Carrie Vaughn's 8th book in the Kitty Norville series. I'll be making out lists for upcoming reads which I'll share with you soon!
Next week on the blog
Cover Love will feature Sara Beth Durst, Top Ten Tuesday is series I gave up on, Can't Wait Wednesday is Into The Dark, Books From The Backlog is all about Richard Laymon and Chuckles Chat looks at scenarios we love and hate about romance. I'll be going Around The Blogs and I hope to be doing book and film reviews.
I hope you'll enjoy Illuminae. Also my gf tried to bet on a horse this week and it didn't end so well! I hope you have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI don't bet but my dad 'loves' it despite all his yelling when they lose! I'm not sure about the format of Illuminae but I'll give it a go!
DeleteI really liked Illuminae. I hope you like it, too. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm a bit unsure about the format but I never look a gift book in the mouth as they say! The story sounds good though.
DeleteSounds like you've had a pretty chill week. Can the pups and I come hide out there? I promise I'll help clean. I'm busy trying to hide from the last week of June right now but hopefully I can find some reading time. I love the cover of Dream Woods and am looking forward to your thoughts on that one. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI wish you guys could move into the empty house beside me! I'm dreading what we might get when it sells! It's a heatwave here at the moment so I hope it doesn't affect my reading time! Dream Wooda will be up next when I finish the next Kitty book...
DeleteI like Matthew Reilly and thought Temple was a fun read. But I haven't yet read The Four Legendary Kingdoms. It does look good, though. :)
ReplyDeleteI've sort of grabbed them at random and not all are the first in a series or stand alone. Ah well, a good excuse to buy more...
DeleteI had no intention of ever reading the Illuminae trilogy because of the format it's written. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it. Imagine my surprise when my book club picked it for this month's discussion, me reading it, and me enjoying it. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly the thing that put me off Illuminae! I hate all these reports and files and things, but your comment has given me a bit of hope!
DeleteNice haul! I see you have some of Mathew Reilly's books. I've been reading his for years and have a good feeling you'll like him. He has great characters and intricate plots. I really liked Ice Hunt and Contest too. Have you tried James Rollins books?
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of these Matthew Reilly books-something a bit different! I haven't tried James Rollins but I'll check him out on Goodreads.
DeleteOoh I just finished Extinction Trials Exile, and in spite of a few issues I liked it. That series is such a fun read once they get to Piloria lol. Dinosaur mayhem! Hope you like Illuminae...
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to watch some World Cup but so far I haven't caught any games.
I enjoyed Exile though I did like the first book a little more. I liked the twists! Hope to review both books soon. I'm already excited for the next book! I'm not really bothered about the football with all the cheating and diving but my dad enjoys it!
DeleteI didn't even realize that Final Destination had books... I liked the movies so I will have to check these out. Happy Sunday and week to you!
ReplyDeleteMary my #Sunday Roundup #24!
I never knew about them until this week! I'd like to get more but the prices on Amazon are just crazy!
DeleteWe've had the World Cup on a lot here too. I tend to read a little bit and then watch the game for a minute and the read a little bit. It's definitely helped my reading rate! I've heard good things about Illuminae. It's not my usual genre but I'm really curious about it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt's quite useful as background noise! I used to love football but all the cheating just annoys me now! I'm worried about the format of Illuminae as I don't usually like that stuff but I'll give it a try!
DeleteI still need to start the Extinction Files series, do you recommend it?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of YA and I very much enjoyed the first two books. No real romance, lots of dinosaurs and intrigue and the first has a Hunger games edge to parts of it. I'd recommend it if you like dinosaurs and dystopia!
DeleteI've been meaning to read Illuminae! From what I've heard, I don't think it'll be your thing, but sometimes books surprise us!
ReplyDeleteThe story itself sounds ok but it's the format I'm worried about!
DeleteI am pretty sure that I have the Matthew Reilly books you listed. I just need to read them :) I hope you like Illuminae. I thought it was well done. I hope you enjoy all of your new books and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI hope the format doesn't put me off Illuminae-it is a pretty cool looking paperback. I need to get at least one Matthew Reilly book read this year!
